1. Licensing and Government Control

In the UAE, a specific license is required to operate any form of broadcasting or television service. This license is issued by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) and other relevant government agencies. Most IPTV services that provide content illegally or at a low cost do not have this license. When the government or relevant authorities identify these illegal services, they block them.

2. Pirated Content

A large portion of IPTV services show pirated or illegally copied content. For example, they stream sports events or movies for which they do not have the commercial rights. This violates copyright law, which is very strict in the UAE. Due to the illegal streaming of content, licensed service providers such as Du, Etisalat, or OSN report these services to the authorities. The government then takes action against these illegal IPTV services.

3. Economic Protection

The government of the United Arab Emirates seeks to protect the economic interests of its licensed cable and satellite TV providers, such as Etisalat and Du. These companies pay licensing fees and contribute significantly to the government's revenue. Illegal IPTV services negatively impact the revenue of these authorized providers, as customers opt for cheaper, unauthorized services. Therefore, these unlicensed platforms are blocked to ensure the protection of local, legitimate businesses.
